Craveable

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Craveable from Laurie Ann's KitchenCraveable is a saying that I have been using for decades. I use it to describe foods that are simply delicious. Craveable is also the name of my new cooking blog.

Why another cooking blog? Well I’ve received emails from many of the readers here about sharing some of the recipes I cook at home. I figured it would be fun to share some of my day-to-day cooking with you but I didn’t want to disrupt the backcountry theme of this blog.

Keep in mind that my other blog is brand new and therefore there isn’t very much to read yet.

S’mores

Sticky S'mores FaceMy first memories of car camping included roasting marshmallows and making S’mores long after us kids should have been in bed. I even included my favorite, Raspberry S’mores, in my cookbook.

S’mores were first listed as a recipe in a Girl Scout cookbook over 80 years ago and are still a quintessential camping dessert. There was even a world record for the largest S’more.

Here are a few of my favorite sites with recipes for every kind of S’more you can imagine…

S’more Gorp from How Stuff Works

S’mores - has recipes and a cute little piece on how boys and girls eat their s’mores differently

Food Network’s S’more Brownies - these are great for backyard BBQ’s

S’mores Recipes - there are many, many neat ideas here

Sometimes our family will take the ingredients for S’mores as a treat on a backpacking trip but they are more suited to car camping.

Keith’s food blog

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Keith, a chef and fellow backpacker, has a very interesting Food Blog. He shares ideas rather than recipes so that you can be inspired. There are some wonderful ideas here that could be easily converted for use in the backcountry.  The Tofu Tacos are especially interesting.
