the latest book news
Wilderness Press, with TouchWood Editions just released the Another Fork in the Trail. This is the second book in my trail cooking series and while A Fork in the Trail has a wide variety of vegetarian options, my second book is comprised entirely of vegetarian and vegan recipes with a secondary emphasis on gluten-free backpacking. The book was released in May 2011.

I am pleased to announce that I am a regular contributor for an American backpacking publication in the Pacific Northwest called Seattle Backpackers Magazine where I share trail food ideas and recipes every month.

Mountaineers Magazine (USA) - July 2011 - an adaptation of the Couscous Primavera recipe from A Fork in the Trail, was included in an article written by Jim Hansen entitled The Perfect Food for the Trail Begins at Home.

Seattle Backpackers Magazine (USA) - July 2011 - a review of Another Fork in the Trail by Erika Klimecky.

Daily Herald (USA) - July 2011 - Another Fork in the Trail was featured in the Meatless Monday section of an article by Deborah Pankey.

Daily Herald (USA) - July 2011 - the recipe for Dark Chocolate Bark with Blueberries and Candied Lemon from Another Fork in the Trail was included in the Chicago-based publication.

The Wilderness Canoe Association (Canada) - July 2011 - the Mediterannean Garbanzo Bean Salad, from Another Fork in the Trail, appeared in the summer edition of the WCA's quarterly journal; the Nastawgan on page 15. The piece was named Food for Paddlers and included a photography by Tony Harting.

straight.com (Canada) - July 2011 - Another Fork in the Trail was featured alongside Pacific Feast: A Cook’s Guide to West Coast Foraging and Cuisine in an article entitled Cookbooks feed backcountry campers, wilderness foragers, vegetarian wanderers written by By Carolyn Ali. An adaptation of the recipes for Greek Lentils and Pumpkin Hummus were also reprinted, with permission. Vancouver's straight.com, is the website for Canada's largest urban weekly publication, The Georgia Straight.

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (USA) - Spring 2011 - A Fork in the Trail was mentioned as one of five resources that the writer considered her favorites in the article Trail Cooking 101: How to Become a Backpacking Chef. Two of the other sites mentioned in the article, Backpacking Recipes and Wilderness Cooking belong to Laurie Ann as well.

Examiner.com (USA) - November 2009 - the Tuna Bagel with Black Bean and Corn Salsa recipe was featured in the Backpacker Examiner by Patricia Poulin. The piece was entitled Backpacking Trail Gourmet: Lunchtime on the Trail.

Get Out! Outdoor Adventure in the Ohio River Region (USA) - October 2009 - the Chana Masala from Another Fork in the Trail was featured in the Backcountry Gourmet section. A delicious photo of the dish, taken by Mary Reed, was included. This recipe will appear in Another Fork in the Trail.

Backpacker Magazine (USA) - August 2009 - an adaptation of the Blueberry-Banana Peanut Butter Bar recipe was featured in the Backpacker Blogs. The piece was entitled Trail Chef: The Search for the Perfect Trail Bar.

Get Out! Outdoor Adventure in the Ohio River Region (USA) - August 2009 - the Roasted Eggplant Spread from A Fork in the Trail was featured in the Backcountry Gourmet section. A delicious photo of the spread on rye crisps, taken by Mary Reed, was included.

Graceful Edge (USA) - July 2009 - the recipes for Sunny Garlic Hummus and Bruce's Chili con Carne were featured in the Everywhere Edge: Trail Chef section. Laurie Ann's Chocolate Almond Cappucino Bars were featured in the Learn section on this site for women who love the outdoors.
